Cancer does not threaten life until metastasis, the spread of tumor cells to a life-essential tissue or organ, has taken place. Examples of these tissues or organs include the brain, bone marrow and lungs, etc. Other life-essential organs such as the heart rarely get tumors. However, this does not exclude them from cancer-related suffering. For example, most mainstays of anticancer therapies induce cardiac side effects leading to devastating heart problems. Our laboratory is primarily interested in understanding the mechanisms underlying metastasis and therapeutic side effects. More >>
